Should I Wear Makeup to a Color Analysis Session?
One of the instructions I give every client before their appointment is simple:
Arrive with your face make up free.
If you normally wear makeup every day, that might feel a little intimidating—but there's an important reason for it.
A professional color analysis is all about discovering how your natural features interact with color. Makeup can change the way your skin appears, making it more difficult to accurately identify your seasonal color palette.
The good news? By the end of your session, most clients are amazed at how vibrant and healthy they look in the right colors—even without makeup.
Why Can't I Wear Makeup?
The goal of a color analysis is to see you, not your makeup.
Foundation can alter the appearance of your skin tone, blush adds color that isn't naturally there, and lipstick or eye makeup can interact with color in a way that makes it harder for you to see the effect of the color drapes.
By analyzing your natural coloring, we're able to accurately evaluate your:
Undertone
Depth
Intensity (chroma)
Overall harmony with different colors
These are the characteristics that determine your unique seasonal color palette.
What About My Hair?
If your hair is colored I'll cover it with a white wrap during the analysis. This allows us to evaluate your natural coloring without your hair color influencing the results.
If your hair is your natural color, it does not need to be covered.
What Should I Wear?
The great news is—you can wear whatever you'd like.
During your appointment, I'll place a white drape over your clothing so the color of your outfit doesn't affect the analysis.
Whether you arrive in black, bright pink, or your favorite sweatshirt, your clothing won't influence your results.
Should I Wear Contacts or Glasses?
If you wear contact lenses, I recommend wearing them if possible.
However, if you prefer to wear glasses or don't wear contacts, that's perfectly okay too. I perform color analyses with clients wearing glasses all the time, and we can still clearly see how each color interacts with your natural features.
It's About Discovering Your Natural Beauty
One of my favorite moments during a session is when clients realize they don't need heavy makeup or bold colors to look vibrant.
The right colors don't compete with your features—they enhance them.
Instead of noticing the makeup first, people notice you.
That's the beauty of a professional color analysis.
Final Thoughts
If you're preparing for your appointment, don't worry about looking "put together."
Come with a clean face, wear whatever is comfortable, and if you have contacts, wear them if you can.
Everything else is taken care of during your session.
